Golden Christmas

What I'm Wearing
Dress // Tobi
Socks // Hanger 221
Flats // Makemechic

I wanted to do a Christmas post last year, but didn't feel happy with the photos I got so this year it simply had to happen! I spent the holidays with my boyfriend and my little Husky of a wolf Mika at my family's house in California. My family has always celebrated our big Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve so that our Christmas day could be spent opening gifts, lounging around, and relaxing...It's always the absolute...

"We do not know the true nature of change by it's moment of occurrence, but by the consequences of it taking root in our lives"
-Sarah Varcas
All things change and all things must change. This is something I'm slowly coming to terms with and will probably continue coming to terms with for the rest of my life. With one chapter coming to an end I'm looking towards the future to see what's next...Starting with a change of locations, followed by some new experiences, people, and most likely a large amount of adventure and mischief. But for now, it's time for work, work, work!
I shot this look at the spot by the ocean that I love so much, and was excited to see that I got some shots of the 101 behind me in some of them.  Driving down that stretch of road to LA is one of my favorite times; there's always surfers, dolphins love swimming by, and the ocean breeze smells so good. It's California at it's finest, and I was there for a pretty incredible sunset. I had to take some shots of the ocean to share because I couldn't take me eyes off it! Thanks for stopping by!

I would love to wear this to any and every holiday party this year. It's perfect for this California weather, and the style is such a fun one to wear. The socks, beanie, and cardigan give it that warm touch to match that holiday feeling while the edgier silver and black jewels and leather accessories give this outfit a kick that rocks!

Hello everyone and happy December! My monday started off on a lovely note; I woke up early to post this since I was called in to work at my vintage shop today, but just got the lovely news that I don't have to come in until the afternoon! Therefore my morning is going to be spent lounging around drinking hot hot hot coffee (mmm just the way I like it!) and making jewelry. And to top off everything, and I mean top it off, it's a rainy day in Santa Barbara, something we haven't seen in a long, long time. And it's finally December. I really love this whole time. Throughout the course of this month I'm planning on drinking lots of warm, tasty sweet drinks, listening to the most classic of holiday music, and keeping a constant flow of blankets, oversized sweaters, and wool socks if not on me, very, very nearby. And last, but not least, there will be at least one gingerbread house decorating night, where I'm sure I'll just end up covering some poor gingerbread man's home in a rainbow downpour of frosting(it happens every year). So happy holidays, happy Monday and a happy start to December!

I'm now going to be posting mood boards and outfit ideas to my blog that can be easily shopped as a regular thing, and to start I posted a look of mine that I would literally wear everyday and not think a thing of it because I can't get enough of black, white, and gold! Besides that, I've been looking for a hat like this one everywhere so I'm pretty excited to have found such a rad one. Hope you enjoy and are having a happy weekend!

Vintage Linings

What I'm Wearing
Leather Jacket // Tobi
Crochet Crop Top // Free People
Earrings // Vintage
Monday fell in with a thud and a bang as I felt the last little bits of the days that were and then passed, fade out with the sun coming up.  My eyes chased around these four walls, still looking exactly the same, but somehow the tone of it all spoke something changed; it's a deceiving fullness that I'm finding to feel more empty than anything else. I got wrapped up so tight in the feeling of your home that I lost the direction to my own.  So here I go, hand on my heart, no clear direction in my mind, headed straight for home.
This outfit was very much needed. I've been really missing my more feminine style, that tends to fall away a little when the colder months comes around (I just want to layer and be cozy!) but Santa Barbara is making sure I pace myself with the seasons because it is still just so hot! I'm really loving the 60's and 70's trend that's going around so I wanted to play with that style myself with this Free People Knit crop top that is just so fabulous, but can be hard to style with other things. I found though that it made for a perfect layered up, feminine look with this American Apparel Skirt, and touches of gold in the jewelry. To add my little bit of edge I added a cream leather jacket over it all and topped it off with some amazingly vintage style sunglasses that I am over the moon about by Wholesale Celeb Shades, and some classic pointed toe nude heels, just because :)

I've found some sense of being in this place. Once again recognizing the feeling of my own hands building up a life I've forgotten to keep dreaming of. Dreams that got lost somewhere between the realities of existing, and the actuality that I'm a part of it; a part of the realness of living. That thought has left my mind a bit more naked, more raw, less sheltered; I've learned to hold onto that nakedness and embrace the absolute vulnerability that comes with it. Within vulnerability lies the potential for beautiful and triumphant breakthroughs. I'm beginning to see that when I get tossed into that place of fear, when things don't feel right, there's an opportunity for acceptance, acceptance for myself, and for my situation and where I'm at. I can know that what I'm feeling and what I'm doing is absolutely and perfectly correct. And when I can accept all that is without trying to control or change it, I can let go, which only makes a big pathway for the good to come. It's a process that I'm learning to appreciate slowly, because it is pretty magnificent in the whole scheme of things.

Here's a casual Wednesday look. This outfit is something I feel totally and absolutely comfortable in. I could wear it anywhere and feel ready for anything. This leather jacket was given to me by Dad a couple Christmas' ago, and with his passing this previous year, it's become something I really treasure. I feel so grateful to have something so amazing like this leather jacket to remember him, along with other things, but this is definitely one of my favorites. I love a good head to toe black outfit, especially when I can wear my bowlers cap. The Free People top really helped to give the look a softer touch with the little bit of sparkle. Not to mention these amazing cat eye glasses that give it some femininity.

Autumn is my absolute favorite season, and being from Colorado originally, I'm used to some pretty beautiful ones. Having lived in California for coming up on four years now, I have to say I really miss seeing the leaves change, feeling the wind shift to a colder season, and how the air just smells different. Santa Barbara has literally gotten hotter since summer ended and I'm trying not to complain, but I want to start bundling up so badly! As much as I want to layer up and break out my coats, the weather just does not agree, therefore I'm faking Autumn-layered-up outfits with oversized cardigans, short shorts, hats, socks and crop tops!

"People who really want to make a difference in the world usually do it, in one way or another. And I've noticed something about people who make a difference in the world: they hold the unshakable conviction that individuals are extremely important, that every life matters, they get excited over one smile. They are willing to feed one stomach, educate one mind, and treat one wound. They aren't determined to revolutionize the world all at once; they're satisfied with small changes. Over time though, small changes add up. Sometimes they even transform cities and nations, and yes, the world."
-Beth Clark
I read that quote this morning and it really stuck with me. One thing that I was taught my whole life is that no matter what, through thick and thin, people come first. That reading really emphasizes that it doesn't take a whole lot to make this world a better place for everyone to live in, including yourself, but you have to start somewhere, a change has to start somewhere. I've got so many dreams-I talk about dreams all the time on my blog because I can't help but drive home how important I think having dreams, and even daydreaming is! Dreams push us to imagine pursuing what we've always believed isn't possible, they inspire other dreams in other people, they motivate, captivate, expand normal every day thinking and make us question what we are capable of accomplishing...

We walked holding the hands of giants
knowing all too well the weight of their steps
And the places with which they could take us
It wasn't difficult to see you through the haze
From the way your light caught my eye
We've been through it all, but you've still got that smile
The one that breathes out the eases of home
Leaving me naked and bare, full of air with no ground
I'm wrapped up in this story we've decided to write
Mixing up the beginning without pinpointing the end
So take my hand and let's just leave
As we step in place with the giants

I had a rather long weekend of working, and lately that seems to be my most productive days...Not sure how that keeps happening. This weekend though, and continuing on, is New York Fashion Week and I was so thrilled to get to watch all of the Instagram videos of the runways since I couldn't be there myself. I spent a good portion of last night trying to see a full length video of Ralph Laurens 4D projected water show in Central Park...(WHAT??) and it was absolutely beautiful! Getting to see New York fashion week is such an inspiring time, even when I'm watching from the complete opposite end of the country! All of the 60's style on the runways made me want to pull out my own bell skirt and do a fun end-of-summer post. I started with this bell corduroy skirt from American Apparel and paired it with this super comfy cotton Pacsun Crop top. By the way, every time I go into a pac sun lately I fall in love with so many items, which is a new thing for me...I just love they're sunny California boho style now! I then added one of my own Amethyst necklaces from my own line and some fun Besty Johnson heels.

Fall/Winter 2014 Trends

Summer is ending and Fashion Month has finally arrived from New York to London to Milan, making it's last stop in Paris, which means it's time for my 2014 Autumn/Winter trends post! This season was so incredibly beautiful fashion wise, from the retro-fresh 60's inspired catwalks of Gucci to the fur covered models of Fendi, I've got the total recap of this years Autumn/Winter designer runways and what you'll be seeing on the streets in the next upcoming months. You'll also find my own Autumn/Winter wish list that has some more affordable versions of the biggest trends on the runways, with all the shopping links provided. Happy Autumn/Winter 2014 shopping!

Runway Recap
Coats, Coats, and Coats
As normal as this might seem, by far the biggest trend of this season and the staple piece of almost every designer's runway was the winter coat. But not just any regular coat, parkas, capes, ponchos, furs, biker jackets, boxy tailored blazers, long trenches, short shearlings, any type of outerwear you could think of walked each of the designers runways. This Winter's fashion is all about bundling up and  finding those core statement pieces that will serve their purpose, all the while being utterly classic and luxurious fashion wise.  A fairy tale like cape seen at Dolce and Gabbana was a particular favorite of mine. And how could you not love the custom initial stitched ponchos of Burberry,? (Thanks to Cara for rocking it so well) I was pretty surprised to see the Parka make it's return with quite a bang (it's hard to admit how well Balenciaga made such a marshmallow shape look so chic). There's really no wrong way to go with this one. Personally I'm going to be looking for some wild (faux) furs to rock, and if I can find a poncho that I can pull off, you better believe it'll be mine!

Swingin' 60's
Another huge trend for these next months is the swinging' 60's. So think short skirts and tall boots (or take a direct cue from the runway and go with pants), patent Mary Janes, pastels, shiny metallics, trapeze dresses...Even a brand new Go Go boot-anything to create the baby doll like style of 1960's London. This is a whole new look for Winter, it's brighter, fresher, and more effortlessly chic than the usual layered up, darker garb we're used to rocking through the cold. I'm finding this trend can be taken one of two ways, there's the way that Gucci did the 60's; with vibrancy, warm toned leather skirts, neutral toned bottoms like a classic trouser pant and a leather knee high boot-a definite tribute to that time. Whereas designers like Hedi Slimane of Saint Laurent took it in a different

Friday Blues

What I'm Wearing
Crop Top // American Apparel
Skater Skirt // Forever 21
Belt // Urban Outfitters
Socks // Sammy Icon
Shoes // AMI Clubwear
Necklaces // Chelsea Den Jewelry // Etsy
I just got a bunch of really amazing socks from the brand Sammy Icon. (see link above) They're so soft and comfy and the designs are super fun to pair with outfits to add some more pop! I shot this look at home, so of course my dog Mika stuck her lovely self into a few shots, she's just the absolute best haha. I love this look because this is something I would wear every day if I could. I'm always a fan of dark colors, blues, blacks, grays, burgundy, and I especially love a comfy cotton-y slouchy boho look, so this one takes my heart. I just bought this belt at Urban Outfitters on sale for an amazing deal, but I'm still on the hunt for a great black leather conch belt ( I want one so badly!) This outfits perfect for a fun Friday night! Happy Friday everyone, have a magical weekend :)
