Long Skirt, Long Day

You know those days where you just go, go, go, your head is spinning, you’ve got millions of things to do, lists written, but somehow lack the slightest clue where to start…You spend the entire day in a frazzled dash and at the end of it you sit down, and still feel like you barely made a dent in your long list of lovely obligations..Well this has been my past couple weeks, until I realized that I just might be exhausting myself more than I need to. For today’s post I would really like to pull up a chair and have a quick chat, or at least a reminding talk about the importance of relaxing. In life we are taught that hard work pays off, and we must work for the things that we want. Now I fully believe that hard work is a necessity to success, but I also believe that you should be happy working hard for what you want. Hard work is character building, but we have been engrained to think of work as such an integral part of being successful, that I think it sometimes gets in the way of happiness. Today was a great reminder that when I start to plunder through life (and fail to notice what I’m pushing aside to get where I need to go) I leave a messy trail behind me that only helps to overwhelm me more. If you’re working hard and happy doing it, then don’t forget to stop, smell the roses, and give yourself a nice pat on the back, because that means you’re doing exactly what you should be. We’re too hard on ourselves and must learn to appreciate our own hard work and accomplishments in order to create positivity for future successes!
I wanted to share a quote by one of my favorite authors, Ralph Waldo Emerson. He is a master of self reflection, and simply life.
“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”
I need to remember this on days like today when I feel like I didn’t get enough done, and am already dreading a day that hasn’t even arrived yet. Deep breaths, and patience for another day of possibilities.
Now to talk about the outfit of the day quickly :) I wanted something simple, comfortable, and easy to get around in. One thing I have zero patience for when my patience is already lacking is an outfit that needs to be adjusted every time I get up or sit down. Maxi skirts, especially high waisted, have become staple pieces in my closet. They’re easy to make any outfit look fashionable. This particular skirt is my favorite though. I paired it with a simple white crop top. The crop helps to balance out the long skirt, elongating my entire body, while the white is still simple enough to handle the bold colors of the skirt. I added a brown belt to give the outfit a little bit of styling and put on a thick gold necklace to tie in the gold belt buckle. When it came to my hair, I wanted something pulled back, as to be out of the way, but still girly and pretty to go with the look.
